(Week 2) Proof-of-Concept

Synopsis

Reflection follows the story of Millie as she returns to her childhood home after the passing of her mother. When Millie enters the master bedroom to begin cleaning her parent’s room, she discovers the door has locked behind her and she is trapped within. In order to escape, Millie must relive the memories and childhood trauma that happened within her family. Only through the process of self-reflection can Millie truly escape the bounds her family placed on her, come to terms with her grief and leave her past behind.

Proof-of-Concept

While the game is a work in progress, we wanted to show you what we had so far as a foundation for the game.

The Reflection Mechanic

The player's main tool to their disposal will be to travel through mirrors, seeing the same room they are in but 20 years in the past. For this, the player can:

  • See a mirror that shows a reflection in the past.
  • The player will be prompted to "visit" the past when near a mirror.
  • Then, they will be transported to the mirror world.

Inventory and UI

The player's main issue will be how to use the past/present to traverse the other which will use items. In this, the player can:

  • Pick up to 5 objects in the environment and place them back down.
  • Carry objects between the past and present.

Movement/Model

The player will traverse through the world and use their height to their advantage.

  • The player can move around and jump freely.
  • The player's model reflects the movement of walking or idling, and we will later add jumping too.

Art & Music Work

Since the assets have not been finalized, we have used basic Unity assets to understand how to implement assets given by the Art & Music team.

  • We have the music integrated into the camera.
  • Unity assets have been used for the room and player to see how we will implement animations.

Issues & Work Arounds

  • This game will require a lot of 3d modelling, for which we do not have too many that can create these. To fix this, we have two individuals making 3d models and two others possibly creating intricate models to copy off of with blocks and shapes.

Thanks for reading! Let us know what you think :)
